For Busch's card, he chose to illustrate his favorite toy growing up: The Imperial Troop Transporter. Say Busch, "It was such a killer toy. And it was neat because it was the first Star Wars toy of something that wasn't in the movie. It even came with these strange black brainwashing devices that you would place on figures faces. Creepier was the photo of the toy on the packaging which featured a throng of troopers surrounding Princess Leia as she's being forced to wear it."

You can see this vision come to life in this incredible set with fascinating imagery from an incredible collection of artists. STAR WARS GALAXY Series 4 cards are available wherever trading cards are sold.

MATT BUSCH NAMED SPOKESPERSON FOR KONXARI CARDS

One of the deals Matt has been cooking up in the last couple months is to take the reins of an incredible new paranormal deck of cards called Konxari, signing on as the official spokesperson. This may seem like an odd side of the fence for Matt to get involved in, but when you see how cool these cards are, you'll know why! Check them out at the offcial site, www.konxari.com.

Also note that the images are all done by MattBusch.com designer Paul Michael Kane! Here's the Press Release:

April 3rd, 2008 – ARTIST MATT BUSCH NAMED SPOKESPERSON FOR KONXARI CARDS

The IRM Foundation has announced that the official spokesperson for Konxari Cards is pop culture artist extraordinaire, Matt Busch. Mostly know for his work on Hollywood properties, Busch has made a nitch in the fandom world with his outgoing presence with zany video tutorials that have exploded on the web and DVD. Says Busch, "I normally would never be interested in being a spokesperson for someone else's product, but Konxari Cards are just way too creepy cool."

Described as a cross between Tarot Cards and a Ouija Board, the Konxari is sure to take fans and paranormal enthusiasts by storm, allegedly giving people the ability to communicate with the 'other side'. Pronounced kon-zar-ee, the cards are said to have been created by the ancients as a form of Cartomancy. Now Konxari is offered as a set of 88 playing cards; a handy tool for those looking for a ghost hunt, séance, or spooked-out slumber party. The game is designed for 2 or more players, where after flipping a certain number of cards, the photos, symbols, and letters are assessed and interpreted as a message from the spirit world. The idea is to find ways to help agitated souls seeking resolution, so they can finally rest in peace and leave you alone.

The supernatural aside, Konxari Cards boast an incredible collection of award-winning photographer Paul Michael Kane's otherworldly images. Despite the fact that many of the photos appear to show impossible or metaphysical imagery, Kane swears that no PhotoShop was used. "The decision was made early on to let the images be subtle and not do any clichéd digital effects." comments Kane, "While I did use a number of physical slight-of-hand or in-camera tricks, there is no digital slicing, layers, or alterations of any kind." Knowing this makes the photos all the more impressive, and unsettling.

While spokesperson Busch is recognized for his work with mainstream properties like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Witchblade, he is quick to show his darker side. States Busch, "I have always been obsessed with the paranormal. I'm as skeptical as anyone, but I'm fascinated with the unknown." In 2001, Busch wrote an illustrated a comic book, Alizarin's Jounal, for Avatar Press; a story in which a paranormal investigator seeks answers from beyond. In 2006, Busch released his first feature length movie on DVD, Conjure, which was distributed by Razor Digital. The low-budget movie was a supernatural thriller and became the highest preselling movie of all time, according to HorrorMovies.com.

Currently, Busch gets to utilize the Konxari himself, being an adjunct Paranormal Investigator for P.R.I.S.M., the Paranormal Research and Informational Society of Michigan. "The cards are really unique, creepy, and will provide a lifetime of entertainment. In addition to being an incredible asset to your ghost-hunting experience, you'll never get tired of getting spooked by the messages you receive." Says Busch, "And with the wavering economy, a complete game with everything you need for only fifteen bucks is a steal." While the card game is sure to flourish in pop culture's already-huge love affair with all things ghost-hunting, you can expect to see Konxari Cards as the next household card game right next to Magic: The Gathering and Uno.

To view more images and learn more about Konxari, check out the official site: http://www.konxari.com

HASBRO RELEASES NEW STAR WARS ACTION FIGURE NAMED AFTER MATT BUSCH!

Hasbro, the official licensee for STAR WARS toys, has released a new "Droid Factory" collection of action figures, where collecting six figures gives you six extra pieces to create an all-new "Build-a-Droid" figure. The new series lets you build MB-RA-7, a figure somewhat created by and named after artist Matt Busch.

After the first STAR WARS film was released in 1977, Kenner (a subsidiary of Hasbro) released "Death Star Droid", a chrome protocol-type droid which was later named as an RA-7 droid. Comments Busch,
"The Death Star Droid as seen in the movie is actually black, though a memorable chrome RA-7 droid communicates with R2-D2 in the Jawa Sandcrawler."

Fast forward to 1998, almost a decade before the book You Can Draw STAR WARS was released, Busch was the regular writer and artist if the "How to Draw STAR WARS" articles for STAR WARS KIDS Magazine. "To help make these tutorials fun for kids, I wrote and illustrated them as if a droid was teaching you. I always loved the look of the RA-7 droid, and so, to give this fictional teacher an identity, I simply tagged on my initials, making him MB-RA-7."

Over the course of two years, every issue of STAR WARS KIDS featured a drawing tutorial, lead by MB-RA-7. Now you can build your own MB-RA-7, by collecting the new wave of "Build-a-Droid" STAR WARS figures, which includes General Grievous, Bail Organa, and FX-6! Hasbro STAR WARS figures can be found in any store that sells toys.

MATT BUSCH BECOMES A STORMTROOPER!

STAR WARS artist Matt Busch has become the world's first Honorary Member of the 501st Legion of Stormtroopers to get his armor! The 501st is a worldwide community of fans that costume as collectors, fundraisers, volunteers, and doing charity work.

Busch was inducted as an Honorary Member of the 501st in 2006 by Jay Shimko of the Great Lakes Garrison. Other Honorary Members include many notable STAR WARS actors, artists and writers behind-the-scenes, as well as celebrities like Kristen Bell, Seth Green, Kevin Smith, "Weird Al", Yankovic, the band No Doubt, and George Lucas himself.

While Busch is the first to have completed TK trooper armor and be registered, several other honorary members are on their way. Col. Anthony Toledo, the master drill instructor for the 2007 Rose Parade, has an Imperial officer costume, but no armor yet. Author Karen Traviss is working on Clonetrooper Armor. Actor Jeremy Bullock was given a full set of Boba Fett armor, but he hasn't joined the Legion yet. Author Timothy Zahn is also doing an Imperial Officer, too.

Busch's ID in the 501st is TK-3477. He received an incredible amount of help from Terrell Reber, TK-1787 of the Great Lakes Garrison. The armor was made of vacuum formed plastic, then trimmed, assembled with E-6000 glue, velcroed and riveted, sanded, painted with high performance enamel gloss white, detailed, and strapped together with velcro, elastic, and nylon straps. Other folks that helped out were Tony Krewson (TK-4063) for the blaster, Wyatt Stevens (TK-4205) for the undersuit top with neckseal, Brooke Merva (TD-1148) for the belt, and Steve Brejnak (TD-465) for strapping up the armor.

You can find out more about the 501st Legion of Stormtroopers at www.501st.com.

One of Matt Busch's dearest friends is fellow STAR WARS Artist Randy Martinez. No stranger to the sacred saga, fandom, or excellent how to draw tutorials, Randy is the author and artist of the upcoming HOW TO DRAW MONSTERS book from Impact. You can check the book out HERE.

If you're a fan of Randy's art, then you already know he enjoys putting his friends and loved ones in much of his art. Sometimes you can notice familiar faces right away, sometimes it's more subtle. In addition to an exclusive set of one-of-a-kind sketch cards, Busch will be toting a brand new STAR WARS poster, Japanese-style! Titled "Land of the Rising Suns", the foundation of this piece began years ago as a wrap-around cover of Autograph Times Magazine. NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD POSTER!

Due to popular demand, one of Matt Busch's previous covers to a NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD comic book will be available soon as a limited edition poster! The Patrick Nagel-style piece was originally published as the cover of the first annual edition of a NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD comic, exclusive to a Los Angeles convention, though later re-released to the public Online.

"The fact that this is being released as a poster is perfect," says Busch, "Though Nagel's work may have been over-exposed as prints in Malls everywhere during the 80's, seeing this piece done as a print brings it to the exact homage I had envisioned."

The prints will debut later this month at the Comic-Con International show in San Diego, California, to which Busch is also a featured Special Guest this year. The prints will be available at the Avatar Press booth, and Busch will be on hand to sign them (for free) on Thursday the 24th from 1 to 2, Friday the 25th from 1 to 2, and Sunday the 27th from 1 to 2. YOU CAN DRAW STAR WARS VOLUME 2 COMING TO DVD!

As a follow-up to the original series of tutorial videos that found limited release on DVD in 2007, Lucasfilm Ltd. has authorized a new DVD from DK Publishing and Planetmatt Entertainment: YOU CAN DRAW STAR WARS- VOLUME TWO. Hosted by notorious artist Matt Busch, the DVD will collect all seven Episodes from Season 2 released this year.

The first series chronicled the entire creation of a 30th Anniversary poster, whereas Season 2 includes the creation of the REVENGE OF THE SITH Style D One Sheet, but also spreads focus to areas such as drawing on the road, storyboarding for film and animation, and comic books. Each chapter includes comical skits to spice up the pace, including a few where Busch parodies Indiana Jones- another Lucasfilm staple.

The tutorials began as a side promotion for the book of the same name from DK Publishing, to which Busch produced nearly 400 illustrations. Before released on DVD, all videos can first be seen on StarWars.com and KidDK.com. The videos later hit other avenues online, and have had more than one million plays on MySpaceTV alone. "It's awesome that these are available on DVD," comments Busch, "for the dedicated aspiring artist, to be able to experience the details at four times the resolution is wonderful."

Busch himself will be attending the upcoming STAR WARS Celebration Japan next week in Tokyo with a brand new limited edition poster. The following week, Busch will be a featured Special Guest at Comic-Con International in San Diego, the largest pop-culture show on the planet.

The Volume Two DVD will debut at Comic-Con as well. To find out how to get your hands on a copy for FREE, check out Busch's Spotlight panel on Saturday, July 26th from 11:30 - 12:30pm in Room 30CDE. INDIANA JONES DRAWS STAR WARS!

Any fan of INDIANA JONES and STAR WARS can quote numerous instances in which the Indy films reference the films from the "galaxy far, far away..." (Did you know that in Temple of Doom, the sound the plane's engines make when it runs out of fuel is the same sound the Millennium Falcon makes when the hyperdrive fails?) Now, paying homage reverses in Matt Busch's latest How To Draw STAR WARS video, which can be seen HERE.

In this episode, Busch himself is dressed as the famous archeologist, seeking the Temple of Vader. He uncovers the mysteries of the Original STAR WARS Style D "Circus" poster, and prepares to illustrate it's bookend piece for REVENGE OF THE SITH. With the aid of Lucasfilm's Pete Vilmur, you'll see the entire process for getting a STAR WARS poster approved and the many different sketches an artist often goes through. You'll also see how Busch incorporates digital technology to accommodate changes to his traditional sketches.

Since hitting MySpaceTV, the How To Draw STAR WARS series has exploded onto the charts, going straight to Number One. The last episode gained 350,000 plays on MySpace alone, in addition to StarWars.com and KidDK.com. The video series is loosely based on the book You Can Draw STAR WARS, which Busch provided nearly 400 drawings and paintings for, and was released by DK publishing in 2007. A limited edition DVD of the first 7 episodes were also released last summer.

Like Indiana Jones, Busch himself is a professor by day at Macomb College, though at night he's an adventure-seeking illustrator. Mostly known for his work illustrating STAR WARS products, he's worked with all kinds of Hollywood properties, including some upcoming work based around the new INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL movie.

You can check out the first Indy-themed episode on MySpaceTV below. As well, you can see a higher res 640 X 480 version at StarWars.com by clicking HERE. Last but certainly not least, you can also download this episode as a Quicktime movie and save it to your iPod at the KidDK site right HERE!

AFTERBURN... THE MOVIE!

It has been announced by The Hollywood Reporter and The Daily Variety that the Comic Book AFTERBURN will be making its big screen debut, starring Tobey Maguire. AFTERBURN, of course is published by Red 5 Comics, written by Scott Chitwood and Paul Ens, illustrated by Wayne Nichols, and covers are painted by Matt Busch. Maguire, who starred in the largest grossing movie of 2007 (SPIDER-MAN 3) will also serve as a producer.

Says Busch, "I'm so honored to be a part of this. I knew when I got the pitch from Scott and Paul that this would be big. I don't take on many independent gigs these days, but I loved the characters and the story, so to see this take off is really sweet. I love doing the covers and am proud that my paintings played a part in bringing this to the next level."

As for Busch's future involvement with AFTERBURN? "I just paint the covers. I started at the beginning with issue one, and hope to be in as long as the Red 5 team want me." Says Busch. "I have the first 4 covers wrapping up the miniseries complete, and I just confirmed that I'll be doing the cover of the collected graphic novel, so I'm excited to do that, too."

In the mean time, you can read more about the AFTERBURN movie announcement HERE and HERE. Of course you can always get all your AFTERBURN related news at Red 5's official site, HERE!

The mission of the St. Baldrick's foundation is to raise awareness and funds to cure kid's cancer by supporting cancer research and fellowships. An event local to the Detroit area will feature many folks shaving their head as a way to show support for kids undergoing chemotherapy.

Unfortunately, Matt Busch doesn't have a whole lot of hair to make an impact by shaving it, however, he has donated a plethora of STAR WARS, HULK, BRUCE LEE, LOST, and STAR TREK posters, as well as a framed original painting of Obi-Wan Kenobi from Episode III. These items will be bidded on in several events and silent auctions to help St. Balricks.

The first upcoming event is this Saturday, March 8th, at LUNA in Royal Oak, Michigan. While the specific card is found in the regular series sets, Busch also illustrated 56 one-of-a-kind sketch cards, which are randomly inserted into packs. While these original sketch cards are intended to be a loose, unfinished sketch, Busch took the time to hand paint each and every card. A few of them are already popping up on Ebay.

Sketch cards have become a new hot commodity in the industry, and Busch has a few more projects in the works, including the upcoming INDIANA JONES Heritage set, as well as a new set from the highly anticipated INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL! More info coming soon.

89X RADIO COMMERCIAL

Recently Matt Busch helped film an 89X Radio TV Commercial Contest Entry, written and directed by Tracy Wayne Surgener. Paying homage to a classic elevator scenario, Busch served as director of photography and even has a cameo himself.

Surgener is no stranger to Planetmatt projects. In 2004, he helped film scenes for Busch's first independent movie, CONJURE. More recently, Surgener has shot and directed most of the upcoming Season 2 episodes of How To Draw STAR WARS. As well, Surgener was the primary director of photography during the 2007 Planetmatt World Tour, which is now in the editing stages of a forthcoming DVD documentary.

Many future joint efforts are in the planning stages between Matt and Tracy Wayne. In the mean time, enjoy this little taste.

SEASON 2 TRAILER: HOW TO DRAW STAR WARS!

Matt Busch announced today that Season 2 of the popular video tutorial series How to Draw Star Wars would debut on StarWars.com and MySpaceTV.com. In addition, a brand new trailer highlighting scenes from the new series has just been posted. (See below.)

Busch was the key illustrator of the critically acclaimed book You Can Draw StarWars (Lucasfilm and DK Publishing) for which the video series is loosely based. Combining humor and cutting edge storytelling, Busch found a unique way of educating fans on drawing, while creating their favorite characters from "a galaxy far, far away...." Originally released as webisodes on StarWars.com, the first seven installments were later collected onto a limited edition DVD. After that, the videos hit MySpace and exploded on to the charts- going straight to Number One. Each video released has at least gone to number one in one category or another.

Currently, Busch is putting the finishing touches on the new episodes and has some exciting plans. While the first series clocked in at nearly nine minutes each, the new installments will be more streamlined- ranging closer to five minutes each, but boasting well over a dozen brand new episodes. As well, while the last series was monthly, Season 2 will be weekly.

Topics will cover more drawing and painting techniques, but certain episodes will also expand into areas such as comic books, storyboarding, and even beginning animation. Expect more comedic antics from Busch, including several episodes which will spoof Indiana Jones- another popular Lucasfilm property and often associated with Star Wars.

MATT BUSCH COVERS WALT DISNEY!

Tomart Publications has released a new book on the life and times of one of the most celebrated creators of our time: WALT DISNEY: THE AMERICAN DREAMER. Written by Tom Tumbusch, the book takes an in-depth look at the man behind the ears, and digs deep into projects that haver even got off the ground. Of course, the retro-styled book cover features a 50's looking illustration by Matt Busch.

"There are challenges with any project," explains Busch, "And this one was no different. The reference I was asked to use was from a black and white photo, so adding vibrant color to bring Walt to life was the first hurdle. The second- the photo had Walt slumped over to the left, held up by his hand, which obscured part of his face. If you look closely, you can almost tell that the left side of his face is lifted slightly, as if a hand was pushing it up." Of course, these are details that you'd only notice if looking for them.

WALT DISNEY: THE AMERICAN DREAMER is available at finer book stores, and you can grab it at Amazon.com by clicking HERE!

VOTE FOR MATT BUSCH'S ART ON A STAR WARS T-SHIRT
StarWars.com has just released 5 new T-Shirt designs that folks can vote on for the official STAR WARS Hyperspace shirt of 2008! One of the 5 was done by Matt Busch, and features a Hot-Rod style image of the Imperial Troop Transporter- the coolest toy from back in the day. You can see all 5 designs and VOTE here!

Explains Busch, "It was one of the first toys that wasn't in the movie. However, it was a little strange that the vehicle came with these two black contraptions that apparently brainwashed victims when put on their head... This bondage device looks more like a sci-fi SAW contraption! Looking back, the box cover was even more surreal, which showed Princess Leia surrounded by troops and forced to wear this S&M thing on her face!"

Continues Busch, "Not very Star Wars-like, but still great memories playing with this as a kid. So I've had it in my head for years to paint and try to bring to life. And in honor of the 501st and all they do for events, parades, charities, and fandom in general, I thought it would be a hoot to present them with a PARTY BUS. They deserve it!"

Also- you do NOT have to be a registered HyperSpace Member to vote, but you do have to be signed in to the StarWars.com site, which just takes a second. Even if not for Matt's design, you should still vote! There's some great competition!

VOTE for your favorite STAR WARS shirt here!

DARK MANIFESTATION RELEASED WORLDWIDE!
Matt Busch's film DARK MANIFESTATION has been released on DVD by Maxim Media International into various markets worldwide. Originally titled CONJURE for the North American release from Razor Digital Entertainment, it went on to become the "Highest PreSelling Movie of All Time" according to HorrorMovies.com.

The reason for the name change? Says Busch, "Apparently one-word titles don't go over well in Europe and other parts of the world. The actual movie itself is the same, it's just called DARK MANIFESTATION with new packaging for the rest of the world."

In addition to the new title and packaging, the movie will be subtitled and/or overdubbed accordingly for appropriate countries. Claims Busch, "I can't wait to see my dialogue overdubbed in Mandarin Chinese. That'll be awesome." Already available in Russia and South Africa, you can find out more about DARK MANIFESTATION here: Maxim Media International.

First Look: THE WORLDS OF MATT BUSCH!

The new quintessential Matt Busch art book, The Worlds of Matt Busch, is now available for preorder. The book is being published by Hermes Press and is expected to hit shelves this Holiday Season.

In 2001, Busch's first art book, FANTASTIC VISIONS, was published by Avatar Press, but the color section was relatively small, and it only featured drawings and paintings of properties that Busch owns. Last year, Busch's second art book, PUCKER, was published by SQP. While this was Busch's first full color art book, it featured only glamour, pin-up and good girl art.

Finally, The Worlds of Matt Busch will show all the different sides of his art. From Sci-Fi to Horror to many of the Music acts he's worked with... From Movies to TV, posters, book covers, comics and trading cards... This book will have it all! From STAR WARS to THE CROW to LORD OF THE RINGS and more!

Designed lavishly by Daniel Herman, this huge book actually has twice as many pages as PUCKER! Extra glossy and thick stock paper- this book will be classy! If you're even remotely fond of Matt Busch's work- this is definitely the book to get!

You can preorder The Worlds of Matt Busch right now at Target - click HERE!
